Mom of 5 Finishing School Free Using Financial Aid Grant

By Kathryn Stovall

A few years ago I decided to try to finish getting my degree by applying for financial aid. I applied for the pell grant and got it! It was me and 2 oldest kids at the time, so times were tough. The youngest started his venture in kinder garden and I was off on my wait to try to make an example of myself by finishing school!

I looked on the internet and found a government site that allowed me to apply online, and there was no fees involved. The school I choose to go to received the information straight from the site. I was able to sign up for 4 classes at a local 2 year school. I was able to start right away. I was able to get all my books and classes covered. I was able to have some left over to help with child care.

I was only able to finish 1 semester at that time because life happens. I had 3 more children and got remarried, not in that order! But that is a good helping of life! Now, 8 years later I think its time I go again! My smallest young one is only 2 right now so I have a full 3 years before he goes to school. I dont want to be in a classroom while he is still so young. I did some research and found out that I can take video classes at home from the same school that I was going to before!

Really? I don't have to find some special on line school that's accredited? Wow, yes, i can go to the same local school and take video courses from home! This is great. So I can be at home with my little man, and do classes during nap time or at night after bed time. Everything is on line! Even the discussions. At most I'll have to go to the campus, which is local, once or twice. Everything else is done at home. What is even better is that my costs, again, will be covered by the federal Pell grant! This couldn't be better!

If I could give advise to anyone that is waiting until their children are in school to start is, why wait? Go ahead and call local schools around you and see what the options are for video courses. To my understanding the classes are exactly the same as the on campus classes. The credits are the same, and I can do them classes when its convenient for me.

Now when my little man starts Kindergarten, Instead of me starting my classes I'll be finding a job since I'll have my degree! I used the pell grant to cover all the classes and I'm good to go! This is a good feeling! - 32384
